		<description>You know, I'm not sure where he got that idea. I suppose it might just be the Brits (they're an odd bunch), but 'round this corner of the commonwealth (Canada), the non-gender specific, formal way to start such an address is "to whom it may concern".</description>

		<description>I've noticed that a lot of sci-fi shows have a tendency to use sirs to refer to people (officers) of any gender.  Don't know if the regular forces do that, though, but it's something that a lot of people get exposed to in day-to-day life.

I find I use 'guys' a lot, even though I'm a woman and I'm talking to just women.  Mildly bugs me, but still do it.</description>
